Congressional District Maps Deemed Unconstitutionally Gerrymandered

On August 27, a three-judge panel of the 4th Circuit US Court of Appeals found that the state’s Congressional district maps were unconstitutionally gerrymandered based on partisan preference by the General Assembly. This is the second time that this court has found this to be the case. In January, this same group of judges found the maps to be in violation. That order was appealed to the US Supreme Court, but was remanded back to the lower court for further review. At the time of publication, both sides have been asked by the court to present remedies to the findings.
