City of Charlotte Takes Public Comments on Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget

Last Monday City Manager Marcus Jones released the proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget to the Charlotte City Council and the public.  During the course of his presentation he provided several highlights of the proposal:

  • 7.7% Increase in expenditures in the General Fund to $898,200,000 which includes a property tax increase
  • Nearly doubles the 2024 Bond to $400,000,000
    • Additional $15 million for Corridors of Opportunity = $25,000,000
    • Additional $50 million for Housing Trust Fund = $100,000,000
    • Additional $123 million for Transportation = $238,300,000

The City Council held a public hearing on the proposal and nearly one hundred individuals signed up to speak on the matter.  The remaining schedule is as follows:

  • May 20 at 1:30 pm – Budget Adjustments
  • May 30 at 1:30 pm – Budget Straw Votes
  • June 10 at 6:00 pm – Budget Adoption
