Plans for 1.5M SF of Industrial Development in West Charlotte Approved by Council

Plans for a massive industrial project northwest of Charlotte Douglas International Airport were approved by Charlotte City Council on Monday night, despite vehement opposition from local residents.

A rezoning filed by Charlotte developer The Keith Corp. calls for up to 1.5 million square feet of mostly industrial space on a site south of Interstate 85, east of Moores Chapel Road and north of Wilkinson Boulevard. The property, which measures about 156 acres, is in an extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Council voted 7-4 to approve the rezoning. Council members Renee JohnsonMatt NewtonVictoria Watlington and Braxton Winston voted against the petition.
